Javelins
Javelins are metal tipped spears used in an athletic event called the "javelin throw". In javelin throw, the javelin thrower has to cover a long run-up area before throwing the javelin, in order to gain certain forward velocity for throwing the javelin to the maximum possible distance. Javelin can attain speeds up to 113 Km/h after throwing and only those throws are valid in which the tip of the javelin touches the ground first. The lengths of javelin differs for men and women, which are 260 cm and 220 cm respectively. The main stem portion of the javelin is made up of wooden shaft to which a sharp pointed metal tip is attached. Fiberglass or Carbon fiber is also used instead of wood. In the middle of javelin, a strip of threads or leather covers are winded tightly to provide a solid grip to the javelin thrower.
